Bruce McEvoy
Pastor of Student Ministries
Responsibilities
Provide overall leadership and vision for First Baptist Student Ministries while personally pastoring, shepherding, and discipling students in grades 5 through 8
Background
I was born in Media, PA, where I lived through fifth grade. Each summer was spent in Ocean City New Jersey. My father retired and moved the family to Florida where I spent my teen years before coming to Wheaton College as a freshman.
After graduating from Wheaton with majors in Bible and Christian Education, I began serving as a youth director in a church in Downers Grove, IL while I finished my MA in Educational Ministries from Wheaton Graduate School. I was hired by First Baptist of Geneva in 1997.
Throughout the years I have continued my education and have completed my Masters of Divinity from Northern Baptist Theological Seminary and am completing a Doctor of Ministry at Fuller Theological Seminary in the Youth and Family Ministry.
Family
I was married in July of 1997 to Diana and we moved to Geneva. Our son J.T. (Joel Thomas) was born in September 2000, and our daughter Sarah Joy joined our family in November 2002. My parents live in New York City and work for Chosen People Ministries. Di's parents live in Downers Grove, IL. I have a sister who lives in Hilton Head with her husband and three children and Di's brother lives in London with his wife.
Ultimate Purpose in Student Ministries
To do whatever it takes to introduce students to the gospel and create an addiction to growing in Christ!
Ministry Philosophy
I believe the church of Jesus Christ is to be a place to believe, belong and become; where all people matter to God; where all people are welcomed and loved, where all are invited to share in the good news of salvation and to grow into fully devoted disciples for Jesus Christ.
Vision for the Future
To create ministries that impact our community for Christ and His Kingdom. Where students minister to students and are turned upside down for Christ. Students are world changers NOW and I am excited about seeing our youth change their world here in the tri-cities!
