Eric and Janet met as summer missionaries in Florida in 1971 and married in 1972. In 1973, they saw a movie about Lottie Moon, the first Baptist missionary to China. As they talked about the movie, they realized that God wanted them to take the gospel to other cultures.
Eric served as assistant pastor and interim pastor on the south side of Chicago from 1978 to 1982, as they raised support to go to Mexico City under the Baptist General Conference (now Converge Worldwide). They found that when they prayed, "Lord, we want to do your will for our lives, regardless of what that means and where it takes us," that God gave them the grace to do His will. They were amazed that they could leave their country and live in another part of God's world without feeling any sense of sacrifice. Instead, they experienced the love mentioned in Matthew 19:29.
In Mexico City, they served as Converge Worldwide missionaries. Eric worked in church planting and mobilization, helping churches to start ministries in evangelism, small groups and disciple-making. He also occasionally taught at the Baptist Seminary and served on the board of the Mexican Baptist Convention. Janet worked with churches to organize children's choirs and to start women's ministries.
Their family returned to the states from 2002-2008, where Eric continued to work with Converge. In August of 2009, they were reassigned to Mexico where Eric is focusing on leadership development, developing healthy churches using the Retool Kit, and church planting aimed at reaching the next generation in Mexico. Janet is developing LEADNet teams for pastors' wives.
