 Anita grew up on a farm in Washington.  Her father was a pastor and missionaries were regularly invited to their church and their home.  During those years, Anita met American and Chinese missionaries from Overseas Radio and Television (ORTV) in Taiwan. 

After she graduated from college, ORTV invited her to teach English on the radio to people in Taiwan who wanted to study English and Christianity.  This experience deepened her interest in missions and the importance of media in communicating the Gospel.  In the Fall of 1967, she met Peter Deyneka, Jr., a missionary visiting her church, and they were married in June of 1968.

During the Communist years, Peter became the president of the Slavic Gospel Association, a mission his father had founded, and Anita served with him, primarily in writing and training.  They traveled extensively during those Iron Curtain years in the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe.  With the collapse of Communism in 1991, they retired from the Slavic Gospel Association and founded a new organization, Russian Ministries (RM), primarily to serve as consultants to many new Western organizations entering the former Soviet Union.  In the past years, they worked with more than 400 such ministries in varying degrees. 

In December 2000, Peter died after a six-month struggle with lymphoma.  Anita continues to serve in a missionary capacity with RM, while also working with other organizations, especially in outreach to orphans in the former Soviet Union.
