Nancy and I (Brock) are members of FBCG. In January 2006, we felt led to sell the Heavenly Ham franchise we had owned and operated for over 9 years. We knew it could reasonably take a year to sell, but amazingly, it sold in 45 days. Then, we looked into opening another business, making a career change, or making a move. Gradually, God led us to see the need for a mission in Quito, Ecuador. God confirmed over and over that this is where he wanted us to go. We also sold our home in 6 weeks at a time when the housing market was declining.
In April 2007, our family flew to Costa Rica to begin a year-long program of language study and the following April, we flew to Quito, Ecuador, where we began our ministry. Immediately, I began skateboarding with some of the local youth and God impressed on me that I needed to minister to these kids, most of who had a poor relationship with their fathers or fathers who weren't involved with them. I took the kids to skate competitions, fixed their boards and began a weekly "skate church" service. At this service, the boys heard the messge of Christ's love, the importance of following Him and what it means to follow him.
Afterwards, everyone skates on ramps they built. Our family plan to continue building ramps and hosting "skate church" as the Lord leads. I also oversee the leadership team and the finances of an outdoor adventure camp called "The Refuge."
Nancy helps with speaking and translating. The kids help with setup and tear down before and after "skate church." Our family feels incredibly grateful to be serving in this ministry as representatives of FBCG.
